I spent all my time in Kuta (cause all I wanted to do was surf haha) so I don’t know about the rest of the island but the vegan options there were amazing! Its almost like an early mini-canggu, just way different. Ok great description i know but anywayys here’s my vegan food guide for Kuta Lombok:)

Like I said, Kuta kind of reminded me of Canggu in the sense that, besides the obvious influence that surfing has on the place, theres tons of hip little cafes and boutiques popping up everywhere. Like it or not, it definitely makes things easier for vegans and avocado toast-lovers everywhere.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I could eat rice for breakfast lunch and dinner and be perfectly happy (literally my life when I lived in India) but a smoothie bowl here and there is always appreciated.

I still lived mostly off of fruit (it was watermelon season (blesss), tropical fruit is just god’s greatest gift to all of us) and nasi goreng tho, so don’t worry if you’re in a less developed area, it’s still really easy to be vegan. ( Thank the lord for tempeh amiright)

 1. Bus Bar

On my first night on the island, I went to Bus Bar with a few people from my surf camp. My expectations honestly weren’t that high, so when I discovered that they offered vegan cheese, I was legit over the moon.

All they have on the menu is pizza and cocktails, but the pizza is actually surprisingly good so I went there kind of a lot haha. Got the dirty hippie with vegan cheese every single time. So good.

Also, Wednesday is bus bar night!

2. Shake ‘N’ Bake

Located right where the boats to Gerupuk (surf spot) take off, their surf booster smoothie became somewhat of a post-surf ritual for me.

It’s just that good! Its a blend of chocolate, peanut butter, bananas, dates and coconut milk, all of which I happen to be absolutely obsessed with.

They have a variety of vegan milks (iced soy latte ayy), bliss balls, a vegan brownie, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, juices… just all my little vegan heart desires.

Their falafel salad is supposed to be amazing too so I gotta come back to Lombok asap to give that one a try. (as if I really needed another reason to come back)

3. El Bazaar

I had the Afrika smoothie bowl and I looved it! (Chocolatey, peanut buttery, thick delicious goodness)

They had a couple other vegan options as well and the food is generally really good, but I heard some questionable things too (like waiting 2 hours for food) so go at your own risk I guess.

(The interior design is soo cute tho so its probably not the worst place in the world to spend 2 extra hours haha)

4. Kenza

Right next to El Bazaar (same owner as well I think), the interior design is just as cute, but I liked the food better. I had the raw vegan chocolate cake(amazing, even my omni friends loved it!) vegan wrap, green veggie curry(really yummy and not like other curries in Indonesia, reminded me of India), avo toast (creative with the dates but the bread was just not up to my Austrian standards haha) and seger sunset smoothie bowl.

Their food is usually flavorful and creative, albeit quite expensive.

5. Milk Bar

Another spot that wouldn’t feel out of place next to Sisterfields and Kynd Cafe, Milk bar offers all the usual suspects; smoothie bowls, avo toast, salad bowls, burgers..

I tried their Falafel bowl, Earth buddha bowl and island monkey smoothie. Not a huge fan of the bowls to be honest (they were good, don’t get me wrong, they just weren’t filling at all). The smoothie was absolutely delicious tho, it was super thick and creamy, tasted like chocolate peanut butter nicecream.

The burgers are supposed to be great (two veg options) and they usually have some vegan cakes. Nice spot for dinner, it gets really lively at night and their cocktails are pretty good.

6. The Mexican In Town

As the name suggests, the only place to get mexican food in Kuta Lombok.

To my delight, they offer tacos, burritos and other mexican staples with jackfruit instead of meat. (just get extra guac instead of cheese and sour cream)

The horchata is vegan and really good too.

The boys were always super excited about the special type of beer that they have there but I, being the true beer connoisseur that I am, of course don’t remember the name so sorry about that, I just stuck to my daily Bintang haha.

The food is delicious but the portion sizes are really small, so keep that in mind if you go there.

7. Mana

Mana is actually a Yoga studio/resort, but they have a really nice cafe open to the public.

True to the spirit of Yoga and ahimsa, they don’t offer any meat and most vegetarian dishes can be veganized.

I tried the beetroot burger, bliss ball, green juice and fruit salad, all of which were delicious, the smoothie bowls and gnocchi are supposed to be good too.

8. Drifters Warung

All they have is burgers, so I got the veggie option with extra avo instead of cheese. The portions are big (finally a place where I didn’t have to order like three things yayyy) and prices are reasonable (warungs are just where it’s at let’s be honest;))

9. Andy’s Burgers

Another burger place a little up the road from Kuta, they have a tempeh option that I really liked. (They were actually out of tempeh when I was there, but the boss actually went ahead and took it upon himself to get some for me, how lovely is that?)

10. Early Bird

Since I stayed at Kura Kura and early bird is about a 10 second walk from there, I basically turned it into my extended living room. Good thing they had a bunch of vegan options (I obviously had to try every single one of them duh)

For breakfast they have chia pudding which comes with a ton of fresh fruit (so good I crave pitaya pretty much constantly now which is kind of a problem cause they’re like 7 euros a piece at home ugh) , a breakfast shake and a tempeh breakfast roll.

They also have a yummy lombok curry with veggies that I always got with extra tempeh and a thai style rice noodle salad with veggies and tempeh:)

11. Nana’s Warung

One of our favorite Warungs in Kuta, I got their veg curry with tempeh, lalapan tempeh, nasi goreng (no chicken no egg), and gado gado, all cheap all delicious:) Boy do I love me some indonesian food (also you really can’t beat the prices, I mean 1.50 for a whole meal?! come on thats pretty awesome)

12. Drop In Surf Camp

I stayed there for 2 weeks so I had their breakfast muesli with fruit and coconut milk pretty much every single day. Not mad about it tbh, it was super delicious.

The cafe is open to the public and they have some other vegan options as well, so if you’re in the area it could be worth checking out.

Soo that concludes my vegan guide for Lombok, hope it helps some of you out:) (or was at least entertaining to read I love reading these haha)
